Buying labels through Starshipit

Starshipit is a shipping platform that started in New Zealand and Australia and connects carriers such as NZ Post, Australia Post, StarTrack, Aramex, and DHL. Connect it to Scanpacker and you can fetch rates and buy labels from the carriers connected to your Starshipit account, right on the ship page.

This guide covers what’s specific to Starshipit. For the shipping workflow itself, see Shipping label purchase.

Starshipit support is in beta. If you’d like to use it, email support@scanpacker.com and we’ll help you get set up.

Setting up

Starshipit needs two keys: an API key and a subscription key. You’ll find both on the API page in your Starshipit settings.

  1. In Starshipit, connect the carriers you ship with.
  2. In Starshipit, copy your API key and subscription key.
  3. In Scanpacker, go to Settings → Shipping Labels, choose Starshipit, and paste both keys.
  4. Click Save Changes.

Carriers and services appear in Settings → Carriers and Settings → Carrier Services the first time you fetch rates. So fetch rates for one domestic order and one international order, then choose your default services.

Buying a label

Buying works the same as with any other platform: set the parcel size and weight, fetch rates or pick a preferred service, and buy. Rates are kept for an hour, so if you come back to an order later, fetch them again.

How orders appear in Starshipit

Starshipit makes one label per order, so each label you buy creates an order in Starshipit, numbered after the Shopify order:

  • The first label for order #1001 creates Starshipit order #1001.
  • If the same Shopify order ships again, for example from a second location, the next label creates #1001-2, then #1001-3, and so on.
  • If Starshipit already has an unshipped order with that number, for example one imported by Starshipit’s own Shopify integration, Scanpacker updates that order and prints its label instead of making a new one.

Labels and printing

Starshipit labels are PDFs. They print with the 4x6 Shipping Label (PDF) print type, so make sure that print type has a label printer on each station.

International shipments

For international labels, Scanpacker adds each item’s description, SKU, quantity, weight, value, HS code, and country of origin to the Starshipit order. Make sure your products have an HS code and Country/Region of origin in Shopify.

Scanpacker receives only the label from Starshipit. If your carrier needs separate customs paperwork, print it from Starshipit.

Things to watch out for

Cancelling a label. Scanpacker doesn’t cancel labels. To cancel one, find the order in Starshipit.

Starshipit’s own Shopify integration. If Starshipit also imports your Shopify orders, buy each order’s label in one place or the other. Scanpacker reuses an imported order while it’s unshipped, but once it’s been printed in Starshipit, a label from Scanpacker goes on a new order such as #1001-2.

Troubleshooting

What you see Why What to do
Every rate fetch fails with Starshipit API error One of the keys is wrong or missing. Copy both keys from Starshipit again and save.
No rates, with a message from Starshipit None of your carriers can take this parcel to this address. Check the parcel size and weight, and your carriers in Starshipit.
The Starshipit quote has expired Rates are kept for an hour. Fetch rates again.
A second order, such as #1001-2, appears in Starshipit The Starshipit order #1001 had already been printed. Nothing, if you meant to ship again. Otherwise cancel the extra label in Starshipit.
