Buy shipping labels from your carrier
In this setup you buy labels outside Shopify altogether, for example on your carrier’s website or at the post office. Scanpacker checks each order, then you enter the tracking number, and Scanpacker creates the Shopify fulfillment with it. Your customer gets their shipping confirmation from Shopify as usual.
You don’t need a shipping platform account for this.
Set it up
- Set After checking an order to Go straight to fulfillment, in Settings > Scanning & Fulfillment.
- Optional: on the same page, set a Prefilled tracking company. It’s filled in for every tracking number you enter, so you don’t have to choose the carrier each time.
- Optional: set up an automated tab that opens your carrier’s website When an order finishes being checked, so you can buy the label straight away.
Pack an order
- Start an order from the order queue, or choose Fulfill with Scanpacker from the More actions menu on a Shopify order page.
- Scan each item. When every item is scanned, Scanpacker moves on to the Fulfillment page.
- Buy the label from your carrier.
- Scan the label’s tracking barcode. Scanpacker fills in the tracking number and, where it can tell, the carrier. You can also type the number in, or click Add Tracking Number if a parcel has more than one.
- Tick Notify customer if you want Shopify to email the tracking details.
- Click Create fulfillment. Scanpacker creates the fulfillment in Shopify with the tracking number.
Move on to the next order
Tick Start next automatically in the menu next to Create fulfillment, and the next order opens as soon as each fulfillment is created.
If you buy labels in batches, for example by uploading a file to your carrier, you can check orders first and add tracking later. Choose Show next steps instead, click Check next order after each check, and add tracking in the Shopify admin when your labels are ready. Buy shipping labels in Shopify describes that way of working.
See Auto-advance for how Scanpacker picks the next order, and how to skip one.
