Buy shipping labels in Shopify

In this setup Scanpacker checks each order, and you keep buying labels with Shopify Shipping in the Shopify admin, just as you do today. Buying the label in Shopify is what fulfills the order.

Scanpacker can’t buy Shopify Shipping labels for you. Shopify doesn’t let other apps buy them, and Shopify can’t buy a label for an order that’s already fulfilled. So Scanpacker leaves the order unfulfilled once it’s checked.

Set it up

  1. Make sure After checking an order is set to Show next steps, in Settings > Scanning & Fulfillment. This is the default.
  2. Optional: turn on Auto-tag orders as ‘packed’ after scanning in Settings > Tagging. Checked orders are then tagged “packed”, so you can filter for them in the Shopify admin. See Order tagging.

Pack an order

  1. Start an order from the order queue, or choose Fulfill with Scanpacker from the More actions menu on a Shopify order page.
  2. Scan each item. When every item is scanned, you see the Checked screen. The order stays unfulfilled in Shopify.
  3. Click View in Shopify to open the order in the Shopify admin.
  4. Buy the label in Shopify. Shopify fulfills the order.

If something needs fixing, click Reopen for checking on the Checked screen. To fulfill one order in Scanpacker instead, choose Fulfill in Scanpacker from the menu at the top right.

Move on to the next order

There are two ways to work, depending on when you buy labels.

Buy each label as you go. After you buy the label in Shopify, choose Start next in Scanpacker from the More actions menu on the Shopify order page. Scanpacker opens the next order in the queue, so you go back and forth between the two without hunting for the next order. The first time you click View in Shopify, Scanpacker shows you where to find this menu item.

Check now, buy labels later. Tick Automatically start checking the next order on the Checked screen. Each order shows as checked for a few seconds, then the next one opens. When you’ve checked a batch of orders, buy their labels together in Shopify. If you turned on tagging, filter your Shopify orders by the “packed” tag to find them.
