Buying labels through Shippit
Shippit is a shipping platform for Australia and New Zealand that connects carriers such as Australia Post, StarTrack, Couriers Please, Aramex, and DHL. Connect it to Scanpacker and you can fetch rates and buy labels from the carriers enabled in your Shippit account, right on the ship page.
This guide covers what’s specific to Shippit. For the shipping workflow itself, see Shipping label purchase.
Shippit support is in beta. If you’d like to use it, email support@scanpacker.com and we’ll help you get set up.
Setting up
- In Shippit, enable the carriers you ship with.
- In Shippit, copy your API key from your account’s integration settings.
- In Scanpacker, go to Settings → Shipping Labels, choose Shippit, paste the key, and click Save Changes.
Carriers and services appear in Settings → Carriers and Settings → Carrier Services the first time you fetch rates. So fetch rates for one domestic order and one international order, then choose your default services.
Buying a label
Buying works the same as with any other platform: set the parcel size and weight, fetch rates or pick a preferred service, and buy. A few things are specific to Shippit:
- Standard and Express only. Scanpacker quotes Shippit’s Standard and Express service levels. Same-day, on-demand, and click-and-collect deliveries aren’t offered. Each rate shows the carrier and its service level.
- Quotes last 15 minutes. If you come back to an order later, fetch rates again.
- Each label creates an order in Shippit, with the Shopify order number as its retailer invoice number. Shippit’s tracking emails and texts to your customer are turned off for these orders, since Shopify sends the tracking details when the order is fulfilled.
- Labels take a moment. Shippit makes the label after the order is created, so a purchase can take a few seconds.
Labels and printing
Labels arrive in the format Shippit sends them:
- PDF labels print with the 4x6 Shipping Label (PDF) print type.
- ZPL labels print with the 4x6 Shipping Label (ZPL) print type, straight to a thermal printer.
Make sure that print type has a label printer on each station.
International shipments
For international labels, Scanpacker sends each item’s description, HS code, country of origin, quantity, and price, along with the order’s value and currency. Make sure your products have an HS code and Country/Region of origin in Shopify.
If Shippit makes a customs invoice or a dangerous goods declaration, Scanpacker keeps it with the label and prints it with the Carrier Generated Forms print type.
Things to watch out for
Cancelling a label. Scanpacker doesn’t cancel labels. To cancel one, find the order in Shippit.
Shippit’s own Shopify app. If you also use Shippit’s Shopify app, it imports your orders into Shippit separately. Buy each order’s label in one place or the other, not both.
Troubleshooting
Shippit’s messages come through word for word, so the table gives the part of the message to look for.
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Every rate fetch fails with Shippit API error | The API key may be wrong or out of date. | Copy the key from Shippit again and save. |
| A carrier is listed with No valid quote was returned | That carrier can’t deliver this parcel to this address. | Choose another carrier. |
| A service you use in Shippit isn’t offered | It isn’t a Standard or Express service. | Buy that label in Shippit. |
| The Shippit quote has expired | Rates are kept for 15 minutes. | Fetch rates again. |
| Please re-rate the shipment | The delivery address changed after you fetched rates. | Fetch rates again. |
